THE INFORMATION CHAIN

ACQUIRESensor / button→PROCESSMicrocontroller / code→COMMUNICATELED / serial / Wi-Fi

The supply provides energy to the system. A control pin carries information: it is not a power supply.

LEARNING THROUGH EXPERIENCE

One path, six steps.

IN YEAR 12

Observe and explain.

Identify inputs and outputs, read a schematic, upload a program, record values and compare expected and measured results.

IN YEAR 13

Design and justify.

Define requirements, manage several tasks, handle an invalid measurement, characterise a prototype and discuss its energy impact.

Which board do you need?

The first four practical lessons use a UNO R4 Minima or UNO R4 WiFi. The beehive project uses the UNO R4 WiFi. The Minima has no built-in Wi-Fi. The RA4M1 runs the program; UNO R4 GPIOs operate at 5 V.

The examples use Arduino C++ : basic C syntax, with Arduino libraries and objects.
